THoughts on a THursday

It's September already. I can't believe it. Change is everywhere around me. I feel it in the crisp air, see it in the already changing leaves, in the warmer clothes I pass in store windows. I see it when friends I've been enjoying maternity leave summers with (which are the closest thing I've had to my care free childhood summers I might add) go back to work. I see it in children I saw hours old are turning 1 and in River who seems to act like he understands this whole life thing, and seems to love it like it is a shirt tailored just for him. I wonder if I was as happy as him as a baby? If I had as much energy? It's such a reassurance that we are doing something right when he laughs and smiles all day long. I think of all the luxuries I get to enjoy this year, with the small love of my life to smile and laugh with all along the way. I think how my days are so simple. I think of my day today. I made a crabapple and blueberry pie. I had brunch with my dear friend and received a pretty birthday gift, had my car AC fixed, napped, and talked on the phone on the deck while River chewed on a cloth book. Today I miss my husband though. He's so sick and he had to go get blood work for mono done tonight...... Until he finds out tomorrow he's staying cooped up in the basement far away from us. G'night Love. Goodnight Moon. That was tonight's bedtime story.

This is what 2 whole weeks at the lake looks like...

Having Chris with me for two whole weeks was the best! Its the first time we've had two weeks in the summer and I think we will do it every year now if we can. Its long enough to truly relax and I'm still smiling thinking about it.

River liked it just as much as I did. If there was any doubt that he knew his dad, it is all washed away. He officially switched to being a daddy's boy on these holidays.... His face lights up with the biggest grin whenever he sees him and he would pass out before ever admitting he's tired when he's playing with dad.... I must say I was feeling a little left out at times, wondering if I would even be noticed if not for the need to eat from me! lol.... No it honestly warmed my heart. I would say my boys bonded to a whole new level....

This is what 2 weeks looked like:

A day at Candle Lake. Chris Helping Harvey Hardie, now that's a tongue twister, and me playing and hanging with my mom, auntie and uncle.

Our fridge quit... Food went bad.. but its a pretty new fridge.

Several days just the 3 of us. Nothing beats time like this. We went to a book store and I wanted Chris to read a fictional book purely for enjoyment... Leisure...... He bought Soduko instead. Although not totally what I was hoping for, seeing him playing it made me feel secretly satisfied.

Coffee every morning made at home.

Looking at home books dreaming up what our future place will look like.

My pots sprayed red to match my deck bed cushions.

River got his second tooth, started first swimming on the floor and then dragging himself across the floor wanting to crawl soo bad but he just can't hold himself on his knees... and he got a tad more hair....

We celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary by driving back to Saskatoon, enlisting some awesome babysitters to watch River (who now refuses to take a bottle) and golfing a new course for me at Moon Lake which was so uniquely beautiful, and then had supper on a roof top patio that we can't go to with a baby........ A perfect date......

We celebrated my 28 on the 28th birthday twice....once early with friends... and once on the day with my parents and my brother, and my boys....... couldn't have asked for anything more.... I got to golf with my new driver and putter...... The driver works deadly! I am crushing the ball, but i can't say the same for the putter.... my putting is just THAT bad..... because the putter is saweeet!

We witnessed a beautiful friend of mine get married and felt so much love that day.

Spent a day in Waskesiu with torrential winds.... But I had an Olaf sunday and carried my boy around until i couldn't anymore.... Chris and Daren golfed....We had Pete's Pizza and amazing evrgreen coffees....my minty hot chocolate was superb. It was fun.

We spent 3 different days with Jen, Emery, and Scarlett...... learned to fish, got to surf and wakeboard, play games, stuff our faces, go for walks, celebrate my champagne day, and ooo and aww about how our kids are playing together.... a definite highlight of our holidays...

We had a BEAR in our yard... AND on our DECK... On TWO different occasions. I was terrified. Chris was off trying to chase it and get pictures like he is invincible... both stronger and faster than a gigantic hungry bear apparently.... So i was scared to go walk by myself and we didn't have a single camp fire.

Did I mention my brother spent a night with us. His first time to our cabin. It made me happy.

I HEART HOLIDAYS.

L O L A

Lola is a little second cousin that just steels my heart. She is thoughtful, caring, inquisitive, adorable, and River just LOVES her already. She is always mothering him, kissing him, worrying about him, and making him giggle. At the Goodsman family reunion this past weekend this water loving, bubbly little girl with her blond curls and red cheeks and lips captivated me. I'm here to share what I saw....... Lovely Lola.

T H R E E . P R O U D . G R A N D M A ' S

Not every little boy gets to have three Grandma's. (or two and an Oma :) ) And better yet 3 right near us! Each so very different, but the same in that they love River to pieces! He's the luckiest and so am I. The grandpa's are special too. But this post is for grandma's. Love you all.

Elk Ridge

Golfed horrible!!! But it was so beautiful first thing in the morning. And I can't complain when I get an offer to babysit so I can hit the greens.

M A R I N & M E

Its been fun Krista and I getting our boys together for play dates. For a while we were the ones who played while they were dragged along for coffee walks, shopping mall sprees, even one gross changing on Opa's bathroom floor, but these days its the boys who are playing. I hope River has as much fun growing up with his cousin...(second cousins i guess).... as I did with mine. Marin is FULL of energy so River can stay busy trying to keep up!
